Character Virtue
is fairer far than beauty. Forgive
others but not yourself. Kind
hearts are the gardens; kind thoughts are the roots; kind words are
the flowers; kind deeds are the fruits. All
roads lead to Rome. A
willful man will have his way. A
good name is easier lost than won. A
spot is most seen on the finest cloth. To
know one’s self is true progress. One
sin opens the door for another. The
best fish smell when they are three days old. Diamond
cuts diamond. A
good face is a letter of recommendation. He
who does no good does evil enough. Every
brave man is a man of his word. Confidence
in yourself is the first step on the road to success. Fortune
favors the brave. Gold
will not buy everything. Virtue
never grows old. Handsome
is that handsome does. Beauty
will buy no beef. Respect
yourself, or no one else will respect you. Humility
is the beginning of wisdom. Self-control
is courage under another form. Speech
is silver, humor is gold. Modesty
helps one to make progress; conceit makes one lag behind. Let
bygones be bygones. Pride
goes before a fall. Evey
medal has two sides. Fine
feathers make fine birds. Call
a spade a spade. Some
people cannot see the wood for the trees. Real
heart lied never. What
is a workman without his tools? Once
a beggar, always a beggar. “Never”
is a long word. The
pot calls the kettle black. A
still tongue makes a wise head. Knock,
and the door shall be opened. Never
offer to teach fish to swim. A
large part of virtue consists in good habits. Two
can play at the game. Barking
dogs don’t bite. Spare
the rod and spoil the child. Forgive
and forget. Every
bean has its black. A
close mouth catches no flies. Don’t
carry coals to Newcastle. It’s
a day after the fair. Every
cloud has a silver lining. One’s
sin will find one out. The
best fish swim near the bottom. Sweep
before your own door. What’s
lost is lost. It’s
never too late to mend. Manners
make the man. To
be good is to be happy. Virtue
is found in the mean. Nothing
is impossible to the man that can will. Look
before you leap. Who
has patience has all things. Past
cure, past care. Waste
not, want not. Diligence
is the mother of good fortune. Never
forget a kindness. Actions
speak louder than words. Promise
little and do much. There
are spots even on the sun. Respect
a man, he will do the more. |
